This project is a typological study of the expression of causation in sixteen (16) Kwa languages. The study focuses on three areas: (a) Morphosyntactic types of causatives (lexical (complex/serial) predicates, (bound) morphological causatives and syntactic causative predicates); (b) Syntax of causatives (argument structure of (non)causative verbal alternations, clause structure and syntactic properties of causatives); (c) Major semantic types of causation encoded (testing the form-function syncretism hypothesis; representing different force-dynamic configurations encoded)
